Its interesting to think that all those things that you want in life, or at least think that you want, someone else was born into having it all, And you don't have any say in it and neither did they. We don't get to choose what kind of life we are born into and we most definitely don't get to choose our looks and health by birth. We know this, yet we often go through life having difficulty accepting it. The problem with comparison is that you always either feel better than someone else or worthless compared to others.
I am fat and always have been, and I'd get teased for it growing up. They would tell me that slim people are more appealing. It made me dislike my own body.
I think its a classic example of a situation when the reason you start comparing yourself in first place is because someone else starts comparing you first. I was happy the way I looked and felt in my own body until others felt the need to express that there was something wrong with that and suddenly, you see yourself flawed.
But now I feel "How dare I let someone question me about my appearance". SELF COMPARISON goes way beyond just looks of course and we do it all the time. It's not always caused by someone else, We ourselves overthink and put ourselves down. Comparison is an act of violence against self.
To love ourselves the way we are, We first need to be completely honest with ourselves. We need to separate ourselves from negativity and toxicity of people. We must accept ourselves the way we are and find the root cause of our problem.
As SOCIAL MEDIA plays an important part in the war between SELF LOVE and SELF COMPARISON, we need to understand that "All that glitters is not gold", we never know 'behind the scenes' story and what we really see is NOT the truth. Happiness and sadness are co-existing and we should accept that with whom we are comparing ourselves, their life is NOT picture perfect. You can not judge a book by its cover.
"You have to choose yourself, even when others refuse to. Self love is choosing yourself and choosing yourself is self care. You are entertaining wrong things with wrong people if you are struggling to love yourself. Its okay to take a break, a moment for yourself. Its okay to be selfish if it means rediscovering your own power and happiness."
